New cultural space in the city of São Paulo, opened earlier this year (read here), the Casa de Cultura do Parque presents another group exhibition starting this Saturday, July 27th. Entitled Of Volume and Space: Ways of Doing, the show brings together three-dimensional works, discussing current thinking around sculptural work.

The exhibition is divided into two main axes: one addressed to the human figure, in dialogue with the traditional history of sculpture; and another addressed to geometric shapes, which does not appear in opposition to the reality of the body, but in conjunction with it. “It is the body that experiences geometry, it is the body that produces it”, explains Ana Avelar in the introductory text.

The participating artists are Alexandre da Cunha, Claudio Cretti, Edgar de Souza, Eduardo Frota, Felipe Cohen, Flávio Cerqueira, Ivens Machado, José Rezende, Laura Vinci, Nino Cais, Pablo Reinoso, Ricardo Becker, Rodrigo Cardoso and Tatiana Blass.

On the opening day of the exhibition, Casa de Cultura do Parque and Terra Nova, Flip's new Visual Arts module, promote a meeting with José Miguel Wisnik about the process of creating the performance world machines, from the Mundana Companhia de Teatro Art Nucleus. The work includes elements of the visual arts, literature and theater and places texts by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Machado de Assis and Clarice Lispector in dialogue. THE ARTE!Brasileiros was present at the presentation of the performance at Igreja da Matriz, in Paraty, during the 17th Flip. See the photo gallery above.
