EXHIBITION | The Pinacoteca of São Paulo and JK Iguat EXHIBITION | The Pinacoteca de São Paulo and JK Iguatemi present the 7th edition of the Pina no JK project, which brings works from the museum's collection to the shopping mall's corridors. Spread over two floors, the edition establishes a dialogue between Gilvan Samico (Recife, 1928–2013) and Gabriel Massan (Rio de Janeiro, 1996), two artists separated by almost seven decades of birth and by radically different languages, but united by their ability to invent worlds from myths, symbols, and narratives of transformation. SERVICE 📍 JK Iguatemi — Av. Pres. Juscelino Kubitschek, 2041, Vila Olímpia, São Paulo (Floors 1 and 2) 🗓️ On display until September 30, 2026 🕒 Monday to Saturday, 10 am–22 pm | Sunday, 11am–22pm 🎟️ Free admission
EXHIBITION | "From Brazil — Black Art and Thought" EXHIBITION | "From Brazil — Black Art and Thought" arrives at Sesc Franca, in its third showing after São Paulo (Sesc Belenzinho, 2023, with over 140 visitors) and Petrópolis (Sesc Quitandinha, 2024). Curated by Igor Simões, the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated exclusively to the production of Black artists in the country brings together approximately 85 works by 76 artists and collectives from different generations and regions of Brazil. The choice of Franca gives the exhibition a particular rooting; it was there that Abdias Nascimento was born in 1914. Isa do Rosário, embroiderer and visual artist who represented Brazil at the 12th Liverpool Biennial, resides in the city and also participates in the exhibition. And Carlos de Assumpção, author of "Protesto" (1958), a landmark of Afro-Brazilian poetry, chose Franca as his place of life and literary creation. For this edition, seven works from the Sesc Art Collection are added to the exhibition, featuring works by No Martins, Eustáquio Neves, Isa do Rosário, Lidia Lisbôa, Jorge dos Anjos, and Miguel Penha Chiquitano. SERVICE 📍 Sesc Franca — Av. Alonso Y Alonso, 3071, Prolongamento Jardim Paulista, Franca (SP) 🗓️ On display until January 31, 2027 🎟️ Free admission Photos: Adauto Perin
INTERVIEW | On the shores of Vitória Bay, the Wharf INTERVIEW | On the shores of Vitória Bay, the Cais das Artes (Arts Wharf) is beginning to incorporate its outdoor area into its visual arts programming. The cultural complex, designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha in the capital of Espírito Santo, is hosting Ala Mar, an initiative aimed at occupying its plaza and other open spaces with works by contemporary artists and educational activities. The opening features two sculptures by Raul Mourão, Hourglass and The Flag, from 2020. In an interview with ARTE! Brazilians, the artist talks about the two works, their relationship with architecture and urbanism, and the growing interest in large-scale projects in public spaces. 📌Read the full text by Giuliano de Miranda (@giuliano.2803) on the website artebrasileiros.com.br (link in bio) Photos: Fabíola Fraga
BOOK | Act Arte launches “we wouldn’t be there now” BOOK | Act Arte launches “There, We Wouldn’t Be There Now,” the third book by visual artist Mariana Tassinari. The volume brings together poems and images produced from four places that have crossed her trajectory in recent years: the Serra da Capivara, in Piauí, where she has been in residence twice; the replica of the Chauvet cave, in France, whose paintings date back 36 years; the Almendres Cromlech, in Portugal, the largest megalithic complex in the Iberian Peninsula; and Futaleufú, in Chilean Patagonia. These are sites of rock painting, standing stone, and extreme landscape, places where the human mark and geological time meet. The book continues a research that has brought Tassinari's work closer to ancestral materials and practices (ceramics, weaving, thread, and fabric) as a way to investigate the relationship between body, landscape, and profound time. “I would like people, when reading the book, to be transported to under a tree, to the top of a mountain, into a forest,” says the artist. #book #actarte #visualpoetry #poetry
EXHIBITION | The Pinacoteca of São Paulo presents, the EXHIBITION | The Pinacoteca de São Paulo presents, starting September 5th, “White Flag,” a monumental installation by Luana Vitra conceived especially for the Octagon of Pina Luz. Curated by Pollyana Quintella, the work uses rare earth elements—seventeen chemical elements crucial to the technologies that organize the contemporary world, from energy transition to defense systems—to reflect on the continuities between extractivism, colonialism, and the wars that dispute control of matter. Born in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Vitra uses the mineral as a record of processes that usually remain invisible, bringing body and territory closer together and suggesting that human exposure is inscribed in a broader matter, made of memory, violence, energy, and transformation. The Octagon — a 200 m² space that has already hosted works by Lygia Clark, Olafur Eliasson, and Adriana Varejão — hosts the installation as part of the residency program that the Pinacoteca has been developing with CHANEL since 2025, dedicated to women artists. SERVICE 📍 Pinacoteca de São Paulo — Pina Luz, Octagon — Praça da Luz, 2, São Paulo 🗓️ From September 5, 2026 to January 31, 2027 🕒 Wednesday to Monday, 10 am–18 pm (entry until 17 pm) 🎟️ R$ 40 (full price) | R$ 20 (half price) | Free on Saturdays and the 2nd Sunday of the month Photos: @levi.veno / Pinacoteca
