En an initiative designed for the times of social isolation due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the Jaqueline Martins Gallery presents from this Wednesday, April 22nd, the Four Flags 2020 São Paulo project. Twice a week, flags designed by guest artists will be hoisted on the façade of the São Paulo gallery. All banners are produced in a 4 + 1 PA edition and the sale value (R$ 800) will be fully allocated to participating artists.

already active in Amsterdam – in a project led by the curators Julia Mullié and Nick Terra -, Four Flags starts from the desire to develop means of stimulating artistic practice during the quarantine, being also “an opportunity to generate revenue for artists in our circuit to continue producing”, according to project presentation text.

The first artist to exhibit his flag at Jaqueline Martins is the São Paulo artist Thomaz Rosa. The next confirmed are Ana Mazzei, Pedro França and Cibelle Cavalli Bastos. “We hope that initiatives like this can be seen not as temporary solutions due to the current moment, but as opportunities to reflect more deeply on the way in which exhibitions and cultural projects occupy institutional spaces around the world”, says the text.
