O FIESP Cultural Center (CCF) receives, for the first time, the exhibition “Victor Brecheret: the indigenous image as a symbol of Brazilianness"The exhibition proposes a new look at the trajectory of one of the leading names of Brazilian modernism, bringing together works, photographs and documents that help to understand how Brecheret developed his own artistic language and how the indigenous figure traversed different moments of his production, until becoming one of the main symbols of his final phase."
The exhibition explores the development of the sculptural language of the artist, one of the great names of Brazilian Modernism associated with the Modern Art Week of 1922. It highlights the last phase of his production, marked by the influence of indigenous cultures. The exhibition brings together sculptures, drawings, photographs, and documents that help contextualize this moment in his career.
Among the highlights is the sculpture “Bartira's Lullaby”, also known as “Woman Lying in a Hammock", considered one of Brecheret's most emblematic works and a synthesis of his artistic trajectory. The piece brings together central elements of his production, especially the search for a more sensitive and humanized representation of Brazilianness.
“This exhibition invites the public to revisit Victor Brecheret from a more human and contemporary perspective, understanding how the indigenous image permeated his work and his vision of the construction of Brazilian identity,” says Fernando Brecheret, director of the Victor Brecheret Institute.

Brecheret's works are found in public and private collections in Brazil and abroad, and his work is strongly present in squares and monuments in the city of São Paulo. The exhibition aims to broaden the perspective on the artist beyond his monumental sculptures and reveal different layers of his career.
The exhibition is curated by Maria Izabel Branco Ribeiro, in partnership with the Victor Brecheret Institute (IVB), chaired by Victor Brecheret Filho.
