O Correios Rio de Janeiro Cultural Center opens on September 11th Every dawn has its end, exposure of Andrey Rossi composed of oil paintings that invite the public to reflect on time, solitude and impermanence through a walk through imaginary landscapes.
Rossi's work does not start from photographic representation: all the spaces depicted in his paintings originate from the artist's internal and personal architecture. In large-scale canvases, long corridors with half-open doors and darkened rooms invite the public to enter the complex network of his imagination, composed of layers of silence and solitude.
In addition to the large paintings, the exhibition, with a critical text by Ulisses Carrilho, includes small-format works that depict still lifes – fruit bowls, pots and other items – which the artist calls “inanimate beings”. When observing the works, it is as if the visitor has entered through one of the many doors in Rossi’s corridors and come across these items that inhabit the forgotten corners of his imagination.
According to the artist, each painting is part of a larger complex, which transforms and expands each time a new work appears. The spaces show signs of degradation: peeling paint, plants invading the spaces through the windows and mold on the walls. This undefined architecture – which could be a hospital, a school, or a house, but whose purpose is unknown – has a deep connection with Rossi's emotional memories. His imagination was largely formed during his childhood in Porto Ferreira, in the interior of São Paulo, a period in which he explored abandoned and ruined places in the region.
The exhibition will be open to the public until October 26, simultaneously with exhibitions by artists Ana Zveibil, Júlio Vieira, Marlene Stamm and Thiago Toes, which occupy the other rooms of the Centro Cultural Correios Rio de Janeiro.
