Exhibition "Earth and Time: Eleonore Koch and Evandro César"

A NND|AZECO debuts its new exhibition: Earth and Time, which brings together works by Eleonore Koch (1926-2018) e Evandro Cesar (1987) curated by rodrigo andrade and critical text of Bianca DiasThe exhibition occupies the gallery space in São Paulo and proposes a unique encounter between two trajectories separated by generations, historical contexts, and life experiences, but brought together by a shared attention to the silent construction of the image, the observation of everyday spaces, and the permanence of time in painting.

Having lived in Brazil since 1936 after leaving Germany amidst the rise of fascism, Eleonore, recognized as Alfredo Volpi's only student, developed a unique body of work over more than sixty years, marked by still lifes, interiors, and landscapes. Her works reveal seemingly simple environments, organized by a precise geometry, where objects, furniture, and landscapes become devices for memory, displacement, and reflection on the human condition.

Evandro César, a visual artist, graffiti artist, and cultural producer born and raised in Cidade Tiradentes, in the East Zone of São Paulo, combines references from the history of painting, popular culture, and experiences lived in the city's peripheral territories.

Using mineral pigments and paints made from earth collected in different regions, Evandro develops compositions with earthy tones and suspended atmospheres, in which facades, interiors, furniture, and still lifes emerge as vestiges of memory and belonging.

According to curator Rodrigo Andrade, the exhibition highlights how painting is capable of establishing dialogues that transcend generations and distinct social contexts. In Terra e Tempo (Earth and Time), the works of Eleonore Koch and Evandro César reveal unexpected similarities in the way they both transform everyday spaces into experiences of contemplation, constructing silent narratives about permanence, displacement, and affections.

Eleonore's drawings, studies, and works on paper, alongside Evandro's recent paintings made with earth pigments, create a space for convergence between different temporalities of Brazilian art. While Koch investigates the relationship between interiority, observation, and formal synthesis, César updates issues related to landscape, memory, and contemporary urban experience, reaffirming the power of painting as a meeting place between times, histories, and territories.
