A pinakotheke inaugurates its new headquarters in Higienópolis, in São Paulo, with the exhibition “Surrealism: art beyond reasonCurated by Max Perlingeiro e Thaddeus ChiarelliThe exhibition brings together approximately 100 works by 60 artists from different parts of the world, offering a broad overview of Surrealism and its developments in modern and contemporary art. Admission is free.

Located in a spacious house on Rua Minas Gerais, at the corner of Praça Marechal Cordeiro de Farias, the new Pinakotheke headquarters features... 700 m² of landThe new location, with 180 m² dedicated to exhibition areas and 370 m² of outdoor space, marks an important institutional reorganization of Pinakotheke, founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1979 by Max Perlingeiro, as well as consolidating a new visual identity and a national and international expansion project.

The exhibition is organized into sections dedicated to European, Latin American, North American, and Caribbean artists, bringing together historical names such as Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Giorgio de Chirico, Joan Miró, Louise Bourgeois, Marcel Duchamp, Leonora Carrington, Roberto Matta, and Diego Rivera. Among the Brazilian artists, highlights include works by Tarsila do Amaral, Maria Martins, Flávio de Carvalho, Cícero Dias, Farnese de Andrade, Tunga, and Erika Verzutti.

In addition to paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs, the exhibition will feature special rooms dedicated to Maria Martins and Louise Bourgeois, as well as screenings of videos by contemporary artists such as Letícia Parente, Lenora de Barros, Kátia Maciel, and Lia Chaia. The program also includes excerpts from classic films linked to the surrealist imagination, such as "Un chien andalou" by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, and "Le Sang d'un poète" by Jean Cocteau.

Throughout the exhibition, the bilingual book “Surrealisms: Art Beyond Reason,” published by Pinakotheke Editora, will be launched. It contains over 300 pages and texts by invited researchers and critics. Pinakotheke São Paulo is located at Rua Minas Gerais, 246, in Higienópolis, and is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 18 pm, and on Saturdays and holidays from 10 am to 16 pm.
