Details

His works are the result of his experimentation with enamel paint, an unconventional paint in the visual arts, which dries from the outside in, creating a kind of film that generates “bags” or “sacks” of paint, allowing the paint that is not in contact with the air to remain alive inside the work. Fans “blow” the vibrant and loose paints, dripped in extremely thin layers from millimetrically positioned pots, which, when they reach the works, intervene in the canvas/object, creating a visual somewhere between the eccentric, beautiful and the grotesque.

Through her blowing, the artist transforms not only the objects, since behind them are huge panels that receive the excess paint, creating a negative of the process. In the works of Karen, the negative becomes an interpretative impulse.

By combining these three elements, it is possible to bring to light their conceptual result, proposing a discussion of the existence of emptiness in artistic work. This emptiness questions whether the true work is on the painted canvas or in the object that received the paint.

Her objects become works of art through the artist's displacement and intervention, and the canvases only function as canvases when it is understood that there is something created on them, a result and not an intention, an interpretation of factors.

Sample "Blow"demonstrates, whether through plasticity, displacement, technique, process or material, that the artist's work is based on simplicity in demonstrating that art depends on the way one looks at it. This contemporary freedom is what attracts the most in her works: they are what they are.
