O My, institution of Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry of the State of São Paulo, inaugurates the first exhibition of the New Photography 2026 program with the series “Regis, where are you?", by the photographer Lucia Lang.
The MIS's annual project selects, through a public call for entries, six new photographers for a solo exhibition at the Museum. The selection is made by the Programming Department, with supervision and coordination by the MIS's general curatorial team. Original photographic series are selected, from professionals who stand out for their technical and aesthetic originality. After the exhibition period, the chosen series become part of the MIS collection.
Lucia Lang presents the series “Régis, Where Are You?”, an essay constructed from long walks through downtown São Paulo. With an attentive and sensitive gaze, the artist traverses the city's streets, alleys, and shadowy areas in a search that is simultaneously urban and existential. The work begins with the almost fruitless search for someone who has left, revealing a city center in transformation, marked by a decrease in the flow of people, emotional emptiness, and profound changes in the social fabric.
Curator Helena Rios points out that Lucia, walking alone through the streets of the city center, seems to feel at home. “She brings us breaths of a raw, simple, sincere beauty. A beauty that is born in her eyes, in her peculiar way of seeing the streets – and life – with the density of that which is genuinely necessary and beautiful.”
Far from being merely documentary records, the images construct urban landscapes associated with a state of mind. The city ceases to be a backdrop and begins to act as an active agent, influencing feelings, perceptions, and ways of being in the world. The center of São Paulo thus emerges as a living organism, marked by despondency, memory, loss, and resistance.
