Exhibition "Drafts", by Arnaldo Antunes

Sample "Drafts”, by Arnaldo Antunes is part of the project Contemporary Dialogues – IAC Collection, which proposes the meeting of artistic processes that challenge the perception of space and time. The event is curated by Daniel Rangel – who brings together around 500 items, including works by Arnaldo Antunes and the collection.

Antunes' original writings become the starting point for visual, procedural, material and thematic dialogues with the IAC's documentary collection. A set composed of notebooks, notes, drawings, collages, sketches and models by Antonio Dias, Hermelindo Fiaminghi, Iole de Freitas, Luiz Sacilotto, Regina Silveira, Sérgio Camargo and Willys de Castro. The selection crossed names from the visual arts, poetry and design, reflecting part of the richness of the IAC collection and also the capillarity of Arnaldo's production.

“Arnaldo is a clear example of a group of visual artists and poets (which also included musicians and composers), who produced a set of works resulting from the encounter of languages ​​(poem, music, literature, design) that occurred from the 1950s onwards”, says curator Daniel Rangel, who has worked with the musician on four other occasions.

The unpublished works are mostly done using the written painting technique, using paper as the main support, whether it be sulfite, Canson, off-white sulfite or Moleskine paper, and some of them are finished using a computer. The selection of the IAC “sketches” was guided by similarity, whether visual, rhythmic, or by the “modus operandi” or the approach to these findings. Experiments, coincidences, combinations, methodologies, projects, excesses and voids shared.

The exhibition is a production of the Institute of Contemporary Art. The educational program is supported by the Galo da Manhã Institute. The activities of the IAC are supported by the Federal Law of Incentive to Culture of the Ministry of Culture, Federal Government.
