Transforming an intimate experience into art was the method chosen by the visual artist. Anselmo Arlotta to share her own journey in understanding her daughter's gender transition. The unprecedented exhibition “Prioritizing Love", at Lama Gallery, brings together nine expressionist works that portray, in intense colors and brushstrokes, the journey between conflicting feelings and the understanding that love needed to prevail.

Developed since January 2026, the exhibition brings together six canvases and three panels produced in acrylic paint, in different dimensions. The works translate the conflicts, discoveries, and changes experienced by the artist throughout the process of understanding his daughter's gender identity, focusing on the emotional experience of a father facing this new reality.

According to Anselmo Arlotta, the exhibition was conceived even before it existed as an artistic project. Painting was the path he found to elaborate on this process and give form to the emotions that marked this period. “I understood that only love would be able to guide me down this path. I could choose to be an adversity in my daughter's life or walk alongside her. Prioritizing love was the decision that also transformed my way of seeing life,” he shares.

The works do not depict the daughter's transition, but rather the artist's own emotional journey through this experience. Each piece represents a moment in this trajectory, revealing the emotions of a father who had to revisit his own convictions to understand the new reality of his family. "I hope that other fathers and mothers realize that it is possible to overcome fears, break down prejudices, and see this reality in a different way. When we prioritize love, we also learn to understand our children better," he emphasizes.

The exhibition is curated by Ingrid Novaes Arlotta, the artist's daughter and the protagonist of the story that inspired it. The artist hopes that the show will resonate with families who have similar experiences and spark reflection on family bonds, respect, and acceptance.

“I would like people to walk through the exhibition reflecting on this journey and realize that, when love comes first, it also transforms the way we relate to those we love,” adds Arlotta, who is presenting her second solo exhibition at Galeria Lama.

“Prioritizing Love” can be visited until September 5, 2026, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 6 PM to midnight, at Galeria Lama, which has two entrances, on Rua João Pinto, 198 or Rua Antônio (Nico) Luz, 159, in the center of Florianópolis. A guided tour will be offered throughout the exhibition.
