For Some Reason marks the first exhibition meeting between Paul Whitaker e Rodrigo SassiAlthough unprecedented, the collaboration between the artists is the result of a relationship built over the years, marked by the proximity of their studios, constant exchanges, and affinities developed in their artistic research.
The exhibition brings together recent works that highlight points of contact between formally distinct research projects, but which are nevertheless traversed by common themes. In both cases, the process plays a central role: the works are constructed from repetition, accumulation, transformation of elements, and the elaboration of visual systems that develop over time.
With a production that began in the late 1980s, Paulo Whitaker presents paintings that deepen his investigation into the possibilities of pictorial language. His compositions are constructed through the superimposition of layers, the recurrent use of stencils, and the constant reconfiguration of forms that move between figure and background. The result is work that explores visual memory, perception, and the tensions between permanence and change.
Rodrigo Sassi, in turn, presents a new development in his research related to the urban landscape and construction materials. In this recent series, the artist uses ceramic tiles to create reliefs and structures that expand the limits of the two-dimensional surface. Through modular repetition, his works establish relationships with architecture and investigate how everyday elements can take on new formal configurations.
Without seeking direct equivalences between their productions, Por Alguma Razão proposes a dialogue between two practices that share an interest in the construction of forms and the power of processes. The exhibition reveals how distinct paths can converge on common issues, making visible resonances that have been built up over time.
More than just a meeting point, the exhibition presents a field of relationships between painting, matter, structure, and space, highlighting the uniqueness of each artist while also emphasizing the affinities that bring their research closer together.
