Archeology seeks to unravel mysteries and shed light on knowledge about ancient civilizations. Chemical analysis of stardust can be used to date and identify materials found at archaeological sites. Carbon-14 dating is a common technique used to determine the age of organic materials. It is with this analogy between archeology and contemporary art that we have the solo exhibition “Pó de Estrelas” by Anna Paes, curated by Paula Borghi.

“Stardust” is a poetic metaphor that refers to our connection with the cosmos and nature, be it animal or vegetable, which reminds us that we are made of the same elements that make up the stars and that we are interconnected with the entire universe. A cosmic perspective that can help develop a broader consciousness and understand the importance of taking care of the Earth, of Gaia, regardless of how it is named. It plays an important role as Anna Paes' theme and source of inspiration, while art is the tool she uses to communicate with the world. So, in “Star Dust” the use of stones, pigments, fragments and objects collected in the field translate an archaeological and mythical landscape into visual language.

The exhibition features around 40 works produced between 2021 and 2024 and relates directly to the training of the artist and anthropologist Anna Paes.

“The creative and production process of the works carried out by Anna Paes seeks a connection between humanity and nature. The conception of the landscape in a fictional or cartographic way presented by the artist encourages us to imagine other possibilities of relating to the Earth” (Paula Borghi)
