Exhibition "Paintings", by Germana Monte-Mór

A Leme Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Germana Monte-Mór in your space. The exhibition Paintings brings together a selection of abstract works that continue the artist's existing research into formats and textures. The works include small canvases, three-dimensional works and also large paintings, revealing the various segments of Monte-Mór's production, always faithful to the exploration of form through studies of chromaticity, contrast and texture.

In addition to oil on linen, the artist also incorporates asphalt into her works. Research into this material has been part of Monte-Mór's production for over three decades and has contributed to the creation of abstraction and relief in the final result of her paintings.

Colors, in turn, play a central role in her works. In the smaller paintings, the artist explores the acidity and power of colors, which she describes as “strident.” In the larger canvases, the color is softer and more welcoming, reflecting a distinct tonal research.

The “Fendas e Buracos” series highlights three-dimensional works made with thick linen and cardboard, which create structures supporting overlapping canvases. The holes are no longer mere shapes and become part of the play of planes and colors. Monte-Mór intensifies the relationship between color and texture, appropriating methods such as the application of loose pigments to create velvety surfaces and also the use of metallic paint, expanding the series that began in 2022. The result is an investigation of the material that activates shadows and volumes, expanding visual perception.
