A Simons of Assisi opens solo exhibition in São Paulo Ojú-Inú, Ayrson Heraclitus, with critical text by Hélio MenezesOn display until [date], the exhibition brings together around 30 works including sculptures, watercolors, photographs and videos, with previously unseen pieces. The artist is also participating in the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, “In Minor Keys”, until November 22, 2026.
In Yoruba, Ojú-Inú means "inner eye," an expression used by art historian Rowland Abiodun to describe the type of aesthetic and spiritual perception that guides Yoruba artists in the creation of their works, allowing them to capture the essence, character, and axé (spiritual energy) of each theme. It is from this perspective, shared by Ayrson Heráclito himself, that the exhibition organizes a collection of works permeated by Afro-Brazilian cosmology and the ritual references that structure his entire production.
The exhibition brings together 30 works in a broad overview of the artist's recent production, including sculptures, watercolors, photographs and videos, namely: “Juntó" – a series of sculptures and watercolors –, “"Inventory", "Black Atlantic", "Sword of Ogum", "Identification marks on sugar boxes from the 1702 Fleet" e "Instructional Oríkìs"" – a series presented in photography and video –, with a video room dedicated exclusively to the work.
The body, the ritual elements of Candomblé, and the connections between the African continent and the Black diasporas in the Americas remain central themes in Heráclito's research, which runs through the exhibition in both new works and series that are already part of his career.
