Exhibition “Craft: Thread: Martinho Patrício: Cutting"

The project's second exhibition of 2023 “Trade: Thread” invites the artist from Paraíba Martin Patricio to present his three-dimensional works of different scales, as well as creations designed especially for the Oficinas do Sesc Pompeii, between September 12th and December 10th, 2023.

The “Ofício:” project was born in 2019 with the exhibitions “Floresta D´Água” by Afonso Tostes and “Drama O´Rama” by Ana Mazzei, when carpentry was experienced in the Farpa edition. With the advent of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2021, the project took to virtual spaces in Ofício: Web, with the exhibitions “Fighting fiction with fiction” by NewMemeseum, “Resist!” by Roberta Carvalho and “#o.lhar” by Raquel Kogan. In 2022, returning to the corridors of the Creativity Workshops, the exhibitions “The Life of Things” by Ana Prata and “Proposals for Re-enchantment” by Marcela Cantuária were held, reflecting on the craft of painting in Mancha. In the interest of continuing the Ofício project, which takes over the spaces of the Creativity Workshops with exhibitions that dialogue with the languages ​​established in the artistic creation and educational development ateliers, it is intended to use the language of textile art as a discursive vector for this year 2023.

The “Craft: Thread” module aims to present and discuss with the Sesc Pompeia audience the fundamental elements and paths of textile languages ​​explored in common themes in the artistic practices of Lídia Lisbôa and Martinho Patrício. The objective of this edition is to present contemporary artists who make use of fibers and fabrics in their construction for the production of artistic works, with the intention of fraying the relationship between so-called traditional production and the moment in which it meets contemporary production, being an artistic medium little studied in the history of art, but which has achieved a certain visibility and scope today.
