Suzana Albano inaugurates his solo exhibition The Extraordinary in Ordinary Things at the Commerce Club, in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre/RS. Curated by Juliana Gonzalez, the exhibition brings together works that synthesize more than two decades of research in textile art.
The exhibition presents a collection of works that engage with plant, mineral, and animal organisms, as well as the transformative cycles that characterize life. Threads, wool, embroidery, lace, tulle, and netting become living matter in the hands of Suzana Albano within the concept of Mixed Textile Media Art. The artist also incorporates discarded materials, attributing new meanings through upcycling, a procedure that broadens the reflection on sustainability, memory, and permanence.
The embroideries, some in large formats, transcend the traditional idea of handmade work. Many of the pieces acquire the status of sculpture and installation, creating three-dimensional surfaces where threads, fabrics, and various materials establish relationships of density, transparency, and movement.
SUZANA ALBANO (Porto Alegre, RS, 1951) is a visual artist and economist. Her artistic practice encompasses textile art, ceramics, papier-mâché, papercraft, and photography. In her work, the representation of human beings and nature emerges as a recurring theme, investigated through different materials and languages. Since 2010, she has been deepening her research in visual arts through courses and training at the Atelier Livre da Prefeitura Xico Stockinger in Porto Alegre, and in artists' studios, participating in group and solo exhibitions in Brazil and Uruguay.
