"Megumi Yuasa" Exhibition

A Gomide&Cis pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Megumi Yuasa (São Paulo, 1938) in the gallery, which opens on August 22nd, at 18pm. The exhibition has a project conceived by the partnership between the artist Alexandre da Cunha, the architect Jaqueline Lessa (between lands) and the researcher Rachel Hoshino, who also wrote the critical text.

Gomide&Co is pleased to present the first solo show by Megumi Yuasa (São Paulo, 1938) at the gallery, which opens on August 22nd, at 18pm. The exhibition has a project conceived by the partnership between the artist Alexandre da Cunha, the architect Jaqueline Lessa (between lands) and the researcher Rachel Hoshino, who also wrote the critical text. Without exhibiting individually since 1998, the artist is holding an exhibition at Gomide&Co that combines works created since the end of the 1970s until some new works created in 2024.

Megumi builds her own language throughout her artistic production, giving shape to sculptures that combine varied elements, such as clay, metals, filings and oxides. A master in his field, the artist emphasizes the communion of potters with the earth, arguing that everything that surrounds a work is part of it and will accompany it to infinity. It is precisely this dialogical relationship, always imbued by the artist's philosophical and political discourse, that structures much of his work.

His imagined landscapes, between trees, clouds, seeds and so-called spars, will now compose the gallery's exhibition space, taking on familiar and at the same time unlikely forms, constituted from a singular exhibition that presents its works without hierarchies. Having held his first exhibitions at the end of the 1960s, the artist arrives at the occasion with more than half a century of experience as a fundamental name in sculpture in Brazil. Given his visual repertoire, it is also possible to perceive the breadth of his poetics, which crosses languages ​​and constitutes his interdisciplinary discourse.
