O SOURCE opens the exhibition “Rough Sea, Pomegranate”, the artist's second solo show Daniela Eorendjian Torrent, presenting works created over the last seven years. The emotionally charged way in which the art is presented gives Daniela, granddaughter of survivors, a fundamental role in representing the construction of identities of the families who were victims of the Armenian Genocide (characterized by mass deportations, massacres and other brutal forms of violence) upon their arrival in Brazil, as well as of their descendants. The curator is Nino Cais and the critical text is by visual artist and writer Cassiana de Haroutiounian.

Driven by memories and aware of the importance of portraits in the recovery of history, Daniela proposes a reflection on the role of women, as a pillar of the Armenian family structure, in the preservation and propagation of the memory and culture of this people. Issues such as the interruption of daily life, the impact on the lives of women in refugee situations and their descendants, expanding to themes such as the construction of identity, erasure, prejudice, oppression, religious faith, social reorganization and non-belonging constitute important aspects of her research.

The exhibition features photographs, paintings, sewing, installations and videos, and discusses the important role of these women in the process of leaving and arriving in a new land, in its various regions, and their internal construction and search for their roots. “I grew up hearing stories of the war and how the family managed to escape, who stayed along the way, how they separated to survive and how they reunited to come to Brazil. After hearing stories from the women in the family and community, in Brazil and Argentina, so many similar stories, I identify within myself real memories and constructed memories, all equally valid and powerful,” says Daniela Torrente.
