Beatriz MilhazesA major name in Brazilian art, she is known for her work that combines geometric rigor with a consistently festive atmosphere, a result of her exuberant palette. Textile art, chita fabric, embroidery, typically Brazilian weaving, and indigenous graphic designs are references from which she draws inspiration, transforming it all into her own unique language.
"Prints from the collection of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo."This exhibition brings together for the first time a collection of 27 prints produced between 1996 and 2019, the result of Beatriz's collaboration with Jean-Paul Russell, founder of Durham Press — a studio for publishing prints, artist's books and unique works based in Pennsylvania, United States."
The Pinacoteca is the only museum in the world that possesses this collection of works.
Complexity and beauty
Visitors will be able to appreciate works of multiple colors, floral prints forming portals, garlands and leafy branches; and engravings by Beatriz developed alongside Jean-Paul Russell.
The artist's work is characterized by a language of complexity and beauty, and by the coherence in the way she manages to move between different techniques, always starting from painting and arriving at prints.
His works also feature sinuous forms, discs, mandalas, and beaded necklaces, enriching the Brazilian geometric tradition. The exhibition also reveals how Milhazes assembles and reassembles forms, colors, and seemingly empty spaces, such as those that appear in The Duck (1996) and Summer Night (2006).
