Forts D'Aloia & Gabriel presents runaway, exposure of Anderson Borba This exhibition brings together sculptures, reliefs, and collages made from organic, industrial, and found materials such as wood, stone, bronze, clay, paper, and aluminum. Arranged in a procession along the gallery, the works take the form of hybrid anthropomorphic bodies, marked by an unstable physicality and references that oscillate between ancestral forms and extraterrestrial imaginaries. The arrangement gives the sculptures a ritualistic and conspiratorial dimension, as if the figures were gathered in a ceremony, procession, or secret assembly. Relating to each other as parts of a larger organism, the works activate an animistic power through the interaction between matter, gesture, and abstract presence.

Borba's research draws from ancient sculptural practices, modernism, and Brazilian vernacular traditions, dissolving the boundaries between these fields and condensing diverse references into a unique and unstable visual language. His sculptures evoke both archaeological artifacts and vocabularies of modern abstraction, while simultaneously engaging with folk art, figureheads, and practices linked to Afro-Brazilian spiritualities.

Through assemblage and collage techniques, the works reconcile solidity and precariousness in fragmented, hollow, and stratified surfaces, suggesting continuous processes of transformation. Borba also incorporates references from fashion and contemporary visual culture, introducing fabrics, ornaments, pixelated images, and graphic fragments extracted from magazines and digital media—elements that amplify the performative and sensory character of the pieces. These treatments give the sculptures a markedly pictorial quality, as if images had been embedded in their surfaces. At certain moments, the works oscillate between object and image, with textures, colors, and graphic fragments functioning as pictorial compositions distributed throughout the sculptural body.

In Fugido, Borba presents a collection of sculptures and wall works that deepen his interest in deviant forms, mutating bodies, and non-linear narratives. The exhibition's title evokes displacement, escape, and transformation, traversing issues related to migration, ancestry, and the metamorphosis of matter. Between brutalist structures and highly tactile compositions, the works construct an environment in which historical, fictional, and existential references coexist in permanent tension.
