Exhibition “Casa Seva Premiere at SP/Arte Rotas”

A Seva House debut in SP/Art Routes 2026 with a curatorial project that brings the work closer to Frans Krajcberg (1921–2017), one of the leading names in Brazilian environmental art, in contemporary production of Gelli SistersPresented at booth D08The selection brings together wall sculptures, including previously unseen works produced especially for the fair, proposing a dialogue between different generations of artists based on a shared investigation into materiality, nature, and sustainability. 

Although they belong to distinct contexts, Krajcberg and the Gelli Sisters share an interest in matter as an element of transformation. The curatorial approach highlights this encounter by bringing together works that investigate natural cycles, the passage of time, and the impacts of human action on the environment, establishing connections between different artistic practices and on sustainability in contemporary art.

Internationally recognized for his work defending forests, Frans Krajcberg has built a body of work marked by the use of burnt wood, roots, and other elements collected from areas of environmental devastation. By transforming these remnants into sculptures, the artist has given new meaning to materials resulting from the destruction of nature, transforming them into a form of visual language and denunciation. His work remains relevant in the face of the urgent environmental issues of the present.

In dialogue with this legacy, the Gelli Sisters present recent works, including previously unseen pieces developed for SP/Arte Rotas. Using primarily vegetable wax and recycled plastic, the artists develop research centered on the processes of repetition, wear, accumulation, and transformation of matter, investigating the relationships between memory, nature, sustainability, and the permanence of materials.

By bringing these research projects together, the curatorial proposal highlights different ways of understanding the subject matter over time. While Krajcberg denounces environmental degradation and the impacts of human action on the territory, the works of the Gelli Sisters point to possibilities for reorganization, reinterpretation, and continuity, broadening the reflection on sustainability in contemporary artistic production. 

This perspective also guides the work of Casa Seva, whose programming seeks to promote the encounter between art and sustainability through exhibitions and curatorial projects. Participation in SP/Arte Rotas expands the reach of the research developed by the gallery since its inauguration in 2024 and reinforces its commitment to initiatives that articulate artistic production and socio-environmental issues. In addition to fostering artists whose research engages with the environment, the gallery The company allocates a portion of the proceeds from its exhibitions to reforestation initiatives, reinforcing the idea that art can stimulate reflection while simultaneously generating a concrete socio-environmental impact.
