Painful Passion: By Márcia Mendonça, by Isadora Ravena It is currently on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ceará.
Curated by Isadora RavenaThe exhibition revisits the trajectory of Marcia Mendonça (1949–1998), a transsexual artist from Ceará whose work occupies a unique place in Brazilian art. The exhibition brings together previously unseen paintings, videos, photographs, documents, and research materials, revealing little-known aspects of her life and work.
By showcasing the work of an artist who created important works of sacred art and remained on the margins of historiography for decades, the exhibition proposes a critical review of the history of Brazilian art.
