The exhibition proposes a dialogue between works by Mary Andrade e Raquel Garbelotti and its processes that deal with different ideas of landscape contemporaneously.”Of the landscapes, those that come to the lips” highlights the singularities of the poetics of the two artists, while emphasizing how the landscape, or even the environment, something that would initially be external, becomes an instance that passes through our being, our body and acts intensely on our perception of the world.
Curator Galciani Neves highlights how the exhibition space will highlight the different supports, research and materials used by Maria and Raquel, and how the landscape narratives created by the artists are intertwined.
While Maria Andrade uses painting as her main language, in which she paints landscapes invented from her memory, in an interlocution between the conscious and the unconscious, because at the same time that there are visual references to places visited, such as her last artistic residence in Morocco, and the landscape of the interior of Minas Gerais, where the artist has a farm, the artist's creative process takes place with images that appear quickly on the canvas, in an almost immediate flow of gestures that constitute her paintings, a striking characteristic of Maria's work.
Raquel Garbelotti, in turn, focuses on research in which she revives the processes of Burle Marx's modernist gardens and Lina Bo Bardi's displays. Her works also cover themes such as the myth of Sisyphus and the Stone. The artist also uses processes of moving elements of the landscape to the exhibition space.
Other works trace the journey of the greatest of myths – that of the great voyages of discovery and their conquests. These are recalled in the exhibition in sculptures/fragments of an oceanic landscape anchored in Modernity.
The works presented materialize something between what was planted/planned and what was finally harvested/presented, whether at sea, on land or at high altitudes.
Architects and artists who collaborated on Raquel's projects
Garbelotti: Murillo Paoli, Giovanna Cruz Durão and Diego Kern Lopes.
