We are pleased to present Cutting, solo exhibition by the Paraguayan artist Claudia Casarino in Sao Paulo. Curated by Keyna Eleison, the exhibition marks her return to the city after almost ten years. The artist, who participated in the 54th Venice Biennale at the Latin American Pavilion (IILA) in 2011, presents an overview of her work, with previously unseen works and key pieces from her repertoire. Casarino produces installations and objects with clothing and fabrics, in order to articulate the mechanisms of disappearance and revelation of the female body in physical and social space. The voids in her works resonate with the stories and images of women affected by structural systems of violence and serve to denaturalize these oppressive devices.

In her recent research, the artist's work has begun to focus on minimal gestures that often go unnoticed, such as the absence of pockets in women's clothing – something premeditated and promoted by the patriarchal system that prevented the autonomy of feminized bodies. Through paths like this, the artist approaches a poetics of the memory of fabric and clothing.

Among his latest solo exhibitions are La faena de habitar un contour, Centro Cultural de la Ciudad Manzana de la Ribera, Asunción, Paraguay (2024); From the Umbral – With this mouth, in this world, Fundación Migliorisi, Asunción, Paraguay (2023); So small that [allí] fit the world, María Casado, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2023) and What keeps us alive is far away, MuVIM –Museo Valenciano de la Ilustración y la Modernidad, Valencia, Spain (2020)

His works are found in important public collections, such as The Victoria & Albert Museum, London, United Kingdom; The Spencer Museum, Kansas City, USA; Casa de América and Museo Wifredo Lam de La Habana, Havana, Cuba; Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands and Museo del Barro, Asunción, Paraguay, among others.
