A Raquel Arnaud Gallery opens its 2026 program with the group exhibition “… every sound wordthrough the curation of Galciani NevesThe exhibition brings together works that take words, text, and graphic signs as central elements of artistic investigation. It presents works by Almandrade, Antonio Manuel, Arnaldo Antunes, Carla Chaim, Carlos Nunes, Carlos Zilio, Carmela Gross, Geórgia Kyriakakis, Fabio Morais, Iole de Freitas, Mira Schendel, Natalie Salazar, Shirley Paes Leme, Vitor Cesar, and Waltercio Caldas, offering a broad panorama of experiments that traverse different times, languages, and poetic contexts.

The exhibition's title is an appropriation of a verse from the song "Açaí" (1982) by Djavan, and points to the vast and powerful universe of meanings that a word can carry. In the song, short and seemingly simple verses reveal multiple densities, suggesting that the meaning of a word is not fixed, but is constructed from the experiences, desires, and lived experiences of those who hear, read, or pronounce it. It is from this understanding that the exhibition is structured.

In “… every sound word,” the word ceases to be merely a vehicle for communication and becomes body, gesture, and image. The works presented invite the public to read, see, pronounce, whisper, and perhaps even dance the words, activating different modes of engagement with language. Painted, engraved, sculpted, forged, printed, written, screen-printed, drawn, stamped, appropriated, cut, glued, or shiny, the words emerge in multiple media and procedures, highlighting their material and symbolic power.

By bringing together such diverse artistic practices, the exhibition creates a field of encounters between word, graphic sign, pause, line, and scribble—elements that inhabit the boundaries between visual arts and literature. The works intertwine in the exhibition space, creating temporalities and places of their own for language, where meaning is not predetermined but is constructed in the relationship between work, space, and spectator.

More than simply stating meanings, “… every sound word” proposes a sensitive and open experience, in which the word is understood as living matter, capable of shifting, provoking, and expanding ways of seeing and thinking about the world.
