Integrating the programming of the 16th Curitiba International Biennial – THRESHOLDS, the exposure "Other Landscapescurated by Juliana Crispe and executive production of Corina IshikuraThe exhibition brings together 35 artists from different generations and backgrounds to reflect on the urgent transformations of the present through contemporary art. The show will open on July 1st at 19 pm at the Santa Catarina Art Museum (MASC), located in the Integrated Culture Center (CIC), and will be open to the public free of charge until October 4th, 2026.
The exhibition proposes a broadening of the traditional idea of landscape. More than a representation of the natural world, landscape is presented as experience, memory, body, territory, and imagination. The works engage in dialogue with issues related to ancestral cosmologies, archives, scientific expeditions, dissident bodies, and speculative imaginaries, revealing tensions between the human and the technological, the ancestral and the contemporary, the natural and the artificial.
In keeping with the theme THRESHOLDS, conceived by the Biennial curators Adriana Almada and Tereza de Arruda, the exhibition inhabits spaces of transition and displacement, inviting the public to perceive the world as a field in permanent transformation. Inspired by the notion of spiral time, developed by Leda Maria Martins, the exhibition understands the past, present, and future as intertwined temporalities, opening paths to other forms of existence, belonging, and care.
By bringing together artists on the contemporary scene, “Other Landscapes” invites the visitor to shift their perspective and imagine new affective, political, and sensitive cartographies for our time.
