The Raquel Arnaud Gallery presents a group exhibition that brings together... Carla Chaim e Marina Weffort — artists represented by the gallery — with the guests Amalia Giacomini e Laura Bethlehem.
The exhibition starts from the historical idea of ether, the ancient “fifth element,” as a metaphor for that which occupies the invisible, the intervals and intermediate spaces. Using distinct supports and procedures, the four artists employ processes of repetition, wear, perforation, removal, and displacement to produce presence: Carla Chaim draws spheres until the pencil wears down, transforming the repetitive gesture into a record of time; Laura Belém creates circles in graphite and perforates Japanese paper with incense, establishing relationships between fragility, combustion, and suspension; Marina Weffort manually removes threads from fabrics, revealing internal structures and blurring the boundaries between presence and absence; and Amalia Giacomini's sculptures change according to the observer's point of view, producing an unstable perception of space.
The body appears indirectly in all the works — not as a figurative representation, but inscribed in action, time, and sensory experience.
