The program of Clareira MAC USP presents, from September 2nd, the unprecedented installation the wondersB, of Laercio Redondo in collaboration with Birger Lipinski. For several years now, the creation of mobile sculptures has been an integral part of artists' research, considering them as dynamic portraits that capture the essence of their characters. Among these figures are Josephine Baker (1906-1975), Carmen Miranda (1909-1955), Luz del Fuego (1917-1967) and Carmen Tórtola Valencia (1882-1955). What unites these diverse personalities is the vital relationship that each one maintains with music, voice and/or dance, reflecting their corporeal essence. This crucial element plays an influential role in choosing the subjects to be portrayed.
The installation as marvels* presents a new series of seventeen mobile sculptures that pay homage to prominent figures in Brazilian culture who left an indelible mark on the country's cultural landscape: Leila Diniz, Hélio Oiticica, Madame Satã, Luz del Fuego, Anitta, Clara Nunes, Elza Soares, Elke Maravilha, Ney Matogrosso, Simone Mazzer, Bidu Sayão, Brenda Lee, Maria Bethânia, Linn da Quebrada, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Clóvis Bornay and Clementina de Jesus. Each mobile sculpture carefully explores the representation of performing bodies – bodies that are public and political due to their relationship to gender, sexual orientation and ethnic diversity. They are bodies that encapsulate, reveal or provoke the fantasies and anxieties inherent to dominant ideologies and desires.
Clareira MAC USP is a space opened in 2021, which seeks to host artistic manifestations in dialogue with the Museum. Thus, there are presentations of music, dance, literature, theater, dramatic readings and critical texts with new readings on the Museum's works, among other actions. Laercio Redondo is an artist with works in the MAC USP collection, two of which are present in the Lugar Comum exhibition, on display until December at the Museum.
