Details

Starting from the autobiographical characteristic, a striking feature in the artist's work Jose Leonilson, the collective exhibition The confession, the diary and the portrait aim to investigate how other contemporary artists use the confessional, the diary and the self-portrait to reveal intimate aspects of their lives and psyches.

“The idea came up with the proposal to make the exhibition about (and not about) Leonilson. Everyone reads his work in reverse, as if he had started keeping diaries and notes about his daily life after discovering he was HIV positive. He already operated in this way”, says the curator who thought of the title when he was selecting the exhibition’s sections.

The exhibition invites the public to delve intimately with the artists providing a reflective and personal experience on the many ways in which art can mirror and shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

A sculpture by Débora Bolzsoni, photography by Maria Laet will be presented; drawings and painting by Panmela Castro; mixed sock of Guerreiro do Divino Amor; painting by Sérgio Romagnolo and Vinicius Gerheim; video and photography by Seba Calfuqueo; Fabric work by Johanna Calle and a Polyptych by Rafael Alonso.

“His legacy is extremely important, as his work is above all very political and raised issues such as health, life choices/sexuality, and having dedicated himself completely to art, without making concessions”, says the curator who is a member of the Curatorial Council of Solar dos Pineapples, in Rio de Janeiro.

Ademar Britto is a curator with a degree in Curatorial Studies from the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, in addition to having attended the Postgraduate Program in Visual Arts at UFRJ as a special student. He has held critical writings and exhibitions of both emerging and historic artists. He has been curator of the SOLO program at the Rio de Janeiro Art Fair – ArtRIO since 2022. Member of the Board of the Contemporary & International Platform.

He is also a doctor with a sandwich training at the State University of Amazonas and Université René Descartes-Sorbonne Paris V, specialized in Cardiology and a Master's degree in Cardiovascular Sciences from the National Institute of Cardiology of Rio de Janeiro.
