A FAAP opens the exhibition to the public “20 years of the FAAP Artistic Residency – São Paulo: contributions to a contemporary art collection", featuring 91 artists from around the world who have already participated in FAAP's artistic residency. On September 20th, an open studio will be held, with approximately 10 artists opening their studios to showcase their work processes to the public on the eight floors of the Lutetia building in Praça do Patriarca, where FAAP's Artistic Residency is located. This will also include an exhibition by recent graduates.
Also on September 19th, the project Mezanino Aberto will open, with the exhibition “Entre o desenho e a pintura” (Between drawing and painting), a unique solo exhibition by visual artist and FAAP professor Caru Duprat.
RES ARTIS 2025 CONFERENCE – SÃO PAULO
From September 18th to 23rd, FAAP will host the Res Artis 2025 Conference — São Paulo, the largest event dedicated to reflections and discussions on artist residencies worldwide. The 33rd edition of the conference, titled "Other Springs: Blooms of the Global South," features more than 60 activities, including lectures, seminars, exhibitions, and museum visits, with an intense program focused on the visual arts. The event is held in conjunction with the 36th São Paulo Biennial and the France-Brazil Season (200 years of diplomatic relations). More information is available at www.faap.br/resartis.
Res Artis, the world's largest network of artist residencies, has chosen FAAP as the venue for its meeting this year. The conference's overall theme is inspired by the title of the book "Spring for the Black Roses: Lélia Gonzalez in the First Person" (2018). The general themes of the various activities are: "Unique Perspectives from the Global South," "Amefricanity," "The Role of Education in and Around Artist Residencies," and "Art, Residencies, and the Natural World."
EXHIBITION 20 YEARS OF FAAP ARTISTIC RESIDENCE Artística FAAP
The exhibition "20 Years of the FAAP Artistic Residency – São Paulo: Contributions to a Contemporary Art Collection" celebrates two decades of what is one of the most consistent artistic residency programs in the country. 91 artists and approximately 135 works are now part of the MAB FAAP collection. According to Marcos Moraes, director of MAB FAAP, "the exhibition highlights the power of this space for experimentation and coexistence, which, since its inception, has fostered contemporary production and expanded dialogues between languages, practices, and cultural contexts."
Among the artists featured in the exhibition is Lebanese artist Ali Cherri, winner of the Silver Lion at the 2022 Venice Biennale. He received the Rockefeller Foundation Award (2017), received international recognition for his audiovisual works, in Copenhagen and Dubai, and has exhibited his work in New York, Paris, Italy, London, and France. His works are featured in collections such as MoMA and Guggenheim (NY), Centre Pompidou (Paris), British Museum (London), as well as museums in Barcelona, Dubai, and Beirut. In 2007, he participated in the FAAP Artistic Residency in São Paulo, at the Lutetia building, resulting from the FAAP Digital Arts Award, of which he was the winner in 2005.
Other highlights include Rio de Janeiro-based Swiss artist Warrior of Divine Love, who creates a highly fictional universe by blending architecture, visual arts, and science fiction. Peruvian artist Aileen Gavonel works with ceramics, printmaking, and performance art, and has participated in exhibitions in Lima, Sweden, Mexico, Madrid, and Barcelona. She was nominated for the Art Nexus Prize at ArteBA (Buenos Aires, 2018). Also noteworthy are French artist Charbel-Joseph H. Boutros, whose work has now been exhibited internationally; Peruvian artist Rita Ponce de Leon, an artist focused on drawing and installation; and photographer Suwon Lee, of Korean descent and born in Venezuela.

OPEN STUDIO – FAAP ARTISTIC RESIDENCE
On September 20th, another open studio program will take place at the FAAP Artistic Residency in São Paulo, an opportunity for students and visitors to explore the studios where the artists-in-residence live and work for a semester. In addition to speaking directly with the artists, who share details of their research and experiences in the city, participants can explore the residency's historic building, located on Praça do Patriarca in the heart of São Paulo.

In addition to the open studio, on September 20th, there will be the opening of an exhibition by recent graduates of FAAP's Visual Arts program. The exhibition, titled "It's Morning, It Was Night," features the following participants: Ana Mae Kawakami, Maria Vitória Accorsi Rausch Souto, Nicole Ribeiro Morsa, Thomas Yassuda Braeckman, and Tomás Martos Hernández.
OPEN MEZZANINE
On September 19th, MAB FAAP inaugurates the 2025 edition of the Open Mezzanine project with the exhibition "Between Drawing and Painting," a new solo exhibition by visual artist and FAAP professor Caru Duprat. The show brings together three series: "Waters that speak of waters," "Waters that want to be mountains," and "Passages," which explore the expressive power of watercolor. Through transparencies and densities, Caru brings the gesture of drawing closer to that of painting, evoking the lessons of ukiyo-e masters Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, and proposes a renewed perspective on landscape.
