A Curitiba International Biennial of Contemporary Art announces the title, curatorial concept, and visual identity of its 16ª edition, which takes place in various locations in the city and state of Paraná, including the Oscar Niemeyer museum, the largest art museum in Latin America.
We are living through a time of transformation, in which the boundaries between humanity and its technologies, the natural and the artificial, are becoming increasingly fluid. In this context, this year's edition presents the title THRESHOLDS, proposing a space for transition and reflection on the changes that are traversing the present and pointing towards new ways of existing and creating. The edition will be led by... curators Adriana Almada and Tereza de Arruda, as well as by a multicultural team of guest curators.
The curatorial concept understands this liminal moment we are living in as a fertile space where art acts as a mediator between worlds. Dwelling on this border and creating from uncertainty guides a proposal that presents itself as a space for exchange between different areas of knowledge and cultures. For curators Adriana Almada and Tereza de Arruda, “more than a concept, LIMIARES is a curatorial attitude: dwelling on the border, remaining in between, creating from uncertainty, generating new paths.”

Marking the long-awaited return to in-person format after the entirely online edition of 2021, the 16th Curitiba International Biennial will present exhibitions by major artists from diverse backgrounds working across multiple media, from physical to virtual. This is a necessary return to the global art circuit, reinforcing Latin America's position as a cultural powerhouse. In its last in-person edition, in 2019, the Curitiba International Biennial attracted over one million visitors.
