Curated by Ailton krenak and deputy curatorship of Angela Pappiani, Eliza Otsuka e Priscyla Gomes, the exposure "Hiromi Nagakura to the Amazon with Ailton Krenak” presents 160 never-before-seen photographs in Brazil by award-winning Japanese photographer Hiromi Nagakura, taken on trips with Krenak, mainly through the Amazon region, between 1993 and 1998. The exhibition, with free entry, arrives at CCBB RJ expanded, with a new selection of images, in addition to objects from the people visited, which were not present in the São Paulo edition of the exhibition, on display at ITO until the beginning of this year.

In addition, indigenous leaders from different ethnicities will participate in conversations held around the exhibition, together with the photographer and curator. On the opening day of the exhibition, at 17pm, there will be a conversation “Hiromi Nagakura and Ailton Krenak meet the people of the forest”, with the presence of the duo and also indigenous leaders Moisés Pyianko Ashaninka and Leopardo Huni Kuin, with the participation of Marize Guarani, president of the Aldeia Maracanã Indigenous Association. On February 29th, also at 17pm, there will be another conversation circle, “Hiromi Nagakura and Ailton Krenak meet the people of the cerrado”, with Krenak, Nagakura and indigenous leaders Marineuza Pryj Krikati, Maria Salete Krikati and Caimi Waiassé Xavante, with the participation of Carlos Tukano, president of the State Council for Indigenous Rights of Rio de Janeiro. On March 1st, at 17pm, Ailton Krenak and the five invited indigenous leaders from the Amazon will give a talk at CCBB RJ.

“Nagakura-san is a samurai. His sword is a camera that he wields with the confidence of someone who has been through refugee camps and been in the center of war zones, in places like South Africa, Palestine, El Salvador and Afghanistan. After this dive into global hell, when he felt the madness of human beings up close, the camera samurai discovered the Amazon rainforest and its native peoples”, wrote Ailton Krenak, curator of the exhibition, in the text that accompanies the exhibition.

The exhibition is sponsored by Banco do Brasil, through the Federal Culture Incentive Law. The show goes to CCBBs Brasília and Belo Horizonte after a season in Rio de Janeiro
