In 2025, during the 23rd Flip (Paraty International Literary Festival), Marina Silva spoke about persistence. She didn't call herself optimistic or pessimistic: she called herself persistent. Today, after an election that is reshaping the Brazilian political landscape, we revisit that statement: Art is persistence. Life is persistence. Politics is persistence. We insist on democracy and possible futures. The conversation, moderated by @alinemidlej, is available in its entirety on the @flip_se channel.
What kind of Brazil do we want to build? For the psychologist What kind of Brazil do we want to build? For psychoanalyst Christian Dunker, the image of the abyss arises spontaneously when we think about Brazil and the history of its democracy, "as an index of inequality, as the fruit of a colonization marked by an abyssal relationship, a relationship in which passage from one side to the other is forbidden." It is necessary to think about reparation strategies to reinvent the country. In 2022, Dunker spoke about this at the panel "The Abyss and the Stitching" of the "Culture, Democracy and Reparation Seminar," promoted by [organization name missing]. arte!brasileiros And by Sesc São Paulo. Let's reclaim this discourse now, after the election of a Senate that distances us from the democratic ideals we defend. ✚ Access artebrasileiros.com.br/vii-seminario #Psychology #Psychoanalysis #Democracy #Culture #SescSP

The event can be watched in its entirety on the @flip_se YouTube channel.

EXHIBITION | The Imperial Palace presents “Thickness” EXHIBITION | The Paço Imperial presents “Matagal”, an exhibition by Louise Ganz that brings together paintings created from her experience in the Serra do Espinhaço mountain range in Minas Gerais. The series originates from the artist's walks through rocky fields, iron ore deposits, and riparian forests, and draws on references from literature, art history, and aerial images produced by satellites and geoinformation platforms. The title refers to the thicket as that which grows outside of order and domestication, vegetation that occupies crevices, abandoned lands, and areas marked by human action. The works reflect on extractivism, environmental crisis, and regeneration, proposing other ways of perceiving and inhabiting the landscape. ARTIST | Romildo Rocha was born at home in 1989, in ARTIST | Romildo Rocha was born at home in 1989, on the outskirts of São Luís. His grandmother, who worked as a midwife in the countryside, came to help. “My mother even says: ‘today women pay for a humanized birth, but back then there wasn’t even water’,” he recounts. And he makes a point of clarifying: this is not a sad story. He grew up playing in the street, but when his mother needed to leave the house, she would leave him and his sister with paper and pens. He drew like any other child, but the habit wasn't abandoned. In adolescence, on the contrary, it became a compulsion. He felt such an urge to draw that he would wake up in the middle of the night “to keep scribbling.” His fingers would even become stiff, he says. He filled dozens of notebooks and any surface that was nearby. In one of his school tests, he got a 1, but the teacher wrote “beautiful drawing” on the back, because the paper didn't come away unscathed from his strokes. His mother still keeps that test to this day. 📌Read the full text by Luiza Lorenzetti (@luiza.lorenzetti), featured in issue #76 of the magazine, on the website artebrasileiros.com.br (link in bio). A!B ARCHIVE | The historian and literature professor A!B ARCHIVE | Historian and professor of comparative literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, João Cezar de Castro Rocha, dedicated himself to examining the discourse of the far right in an attempt to understand the reasons for the movement, its strategies, and the paths that led to its radicalization, throughout the world and particularly in Brazil. A country that, according to him, is "a global laboratory for the methodical creation of parallel realities." In an interview with... arte!brasileirosIn 2024, he discusses the origins and unfolding of the use of hate rhetoric, which combines absolute denial of diversity, cognitive chaos, and the creation of a perverse media sphere, strengthening an authoritarian and theocratic discourse of power. 📌Read the full text on the website artebrasileiros.com.br/revista, in issue #66 (link in bio) (Image created by Artificial Intelligence used on social media to publicize the demonstration held in February 2024 on Avenida Paulista in support of Bolsonaro: a dangerous and outdated mix of conservatism, faith, and patriotism)
