Project Document Pantanal will bring the work of 3 of its members, Araquém Alcântara, João Farkas and Luciano Candisani, to the SP Art – art fair that brings together more than 2 Brazilian and international artists every year, hosted at the Bienal Pavilion during April 1st and 5th in 2020.

Alcântara has been active since 1970 and was the first photographer to document all of Brazil's parks, also standing out for having carried out a systematic essay on the country's ecosystems and conservation units. Farkas co-directed, alongside director Jorge Bodanzky, the film Ruivaldo, The Man Who Saved the Earth and will launch in April this year the book wetland, with images taken during 6 expeditions in the biome. Candisani, after having produced imagery narratives for two decades that interpret traditional cultures and ecosystems around the world, is currently dedicated to producing an essay on the beauty and importance of water dynamics in the Pantanal.

According to the organizer of documents, cultural producer Mônica Guimarães, the participation of these three professionals helps to illustrate how photography is important in creating a thought that encourages the preservation of the Pantanal: “The sensitive look of each of them for the varied facets of the Pantanal region exposes, in addition to the exuberant nature of this ecosystem, its fragility and calls attention to the need for its urgent conservation”.

About Documenta Pantanal

The project foresees the development of multimedia actions (exhibitions, books and videos) as a call to society for the urgency of knowing and preserving this heritage, in order to speak to a wide audience - seeking to bring together researchers, academics, producers linked to agribusiness, groups with interests in conservation, tourism, journalists and educators – to put the Pantanal on the agenda of Brazilian opinion.
