A Frieze New York, one of the most important art fairs on the international circuit, takes place from May 19 at The Shed, in New York, and online at event viewing room. The Brazilian galleries Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, Jaqueline Martins, Luisa Strina, Marilia Razuk, Mendes Wood DM and Sé will be at the fair with the support of Projeto Latitude, a partnership between the Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art (ABACT) and the Brazilian Promotion Agency of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil).

For Frieze New York, Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel will bring Press, created especially for the event and which investigates the multiple facets of desire. Efrain Almeida, Leda Catunda, Jac Leirner, Rivane Neuenschwander, Janaina Tschäpe and Yuli Yamagata are among the Brazilian artists who produced new works for the occasion. The gallery also features works by Alair Gomes, Sergej Jensen, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ernest Net, Adriana Varejao e Barbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca.

The galleries Marilia Razuk and Jaqueline Martins will present At once: provocation and reflection, an unprecedented dialogue between the Brazilians José Leonilson (1957-1993) and Hudinilson Jr. (1957-2013); highlighting how his artistic documentation, both in diaries and photographs, converged on major issues that deeply marked his generation: sexual freedom and the tragedy of the HIV pandemic.

Mendes Wood DM will display a selection of highlights emphasizing a recontextualization of the Global South. Works by Solange Pessoa, Paulo Nimer Pjota, Paulo Nazareth, Paulo Monteiro, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Mariana Castillo Deball, Kisho Suga and Anna Bella Geiger, Guglielmo Castelli, Alvaro Barrington, Paula Siebra and Mimi Lauter will be on display.

Sé Galeria, which takes part in the event in the Frame section (focused on young spaces and emerging talents), will showcase the work of Rebecca Sharp, a Brazilian artist based in the United States, who presents a series of new paintings and sculptures exploring the surrealist imagery.

A Gentil Carioca participates in the Independent Art Fair, another event that takes place in New York in the month of May in a hybrid way, with the first international solo show by Vinicius Gerheim. Closed on the 8th, the fair continues with an online viewing room until the 31st. The Gomide & Co gallery was also dedicated to another event, TEFAF New York – which was open to the public until the 10th of May -, in which exhibited a selection of works by artists such as Mira Schendel, Hélio Oiticica, Ivan Serpa, Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, Willys de Castro and Sergio Camargo.
