The Venice Biennale announced this Thursday (15), that Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director of Masp, will be the curator of the visual arts section of the next edition of the show, which takes place in the Italian city from April 20 to November 24, 2024.

“I am honored and grateful for this prestigious nomination. THE Biennial it is certainly the most important platform for contemporary art in the world, and it is an exciting challenge and a responsibility for me to carry out this project”, declared the curator, who will be the first Latin American to assume this position in the former and renowned art show International. The indication came from Roberto Cicutto, general director of the institution.

Pedrosa has been the artistic director of Masp since 2014. He was assistant curator of the 24th Bienal de São Paulo (1998), the Bienal da Antropofagia, which had Paulo Herkenhoff as general curator. Alongside Cristina Freire, José Roca, Rosa Martínez, he was co-curator of the 27th Bienal de São Paulo, how to live together (2006), which was generally curated by Lisette Lagnado. Adriano Pedrosa also participated as curator of InSite_05 (San Diego Museum of Art, Centro Cultural Tijuana, 2005), artistic director of the 2nd Trienal de San Juan (2009), curator of the 31st Panorama of Brazilian Art-Mamõyaguara opá mamõ pupé (Museum of Art Moderna, São Paulo, 2009), co-curator of the 12th Istanbul Biennial, curator of the São Paulo Pavilion at the 9th Shanghai Biennial (2012), among other projects. In 2023, he was honored with the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, given to him by the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York.
