This special edition of Arte!Brasileiros is the result of a meeting. A meeting of exceptional professionals from different Brazilian states and cities who have been working tirelessly in and for Brazilian culture for years. Of people whose character and empathy made possible an impeccable work of almost eight months, with the objective of holding the first Seminar Arte!Brasileiros International outside the hegemonic cities, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Despite the brutal investment cuts by the Bolsonaro government, the obscurantism into which the government had plunged the country, we found, in Espírito Santo, a public and political intention to invest in culture and education.
Thus, thanks to the Law of Incentive to Capixaba Culture (LICC), to the Secretariat of Culture of Espírito Santo, in the person of Fabricio de Noronha, its Secretary of Culture, and to the sponsorship of EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the electricity sector, and to the partnership between ATMO, a culture company from Vitória (ES) and Arte!Brasileiros In the last days of March 2025, we managed to bring together two dozen national and international guests, researchers, curators, educators, artists and managers of hegemonic and non-hegemonic institutions, for an unforgettable event. At the Espírito Santo Art Museum – MAES and at the Sônia Cabral Music House, hundreds of participants heard and debated about erased narratives from Brazilian history, about cutting-edge solidarity initiatives, their actions and suggestions on how to work collectively and about the importance of theoretical and territorial dialogues. We always say that decolonizing is an everyday act, in science, education, culture, and art.
The defense of democracy and social justice depends on the ongoing development of critical methodologies and strategic projects in defense of a civilization that is under ecological and human threat. Follow these pages and witness this special encounter. ✱
