On September 11th, the 36th São Paulo Biennial The exhibition has reopened its doors, this time in Berlin. The reduced version, featuring 32 of the 125 entries from the original edition, performs a double movement: it expands its horizons in an unprecedented way and, at the same time, returns to one of its original homes, since it was in parallel with the project developed at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, known as HKW (House of World Cultures), an institution he has directed since 2023, that Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung oversaw the conception and execution of the exhibition. Showing the result of this curatorial process in the German capital is, for Bonaventure, a political gesture. “We, who come from the South, have many complexes,” he states, emphasizing the power and structure of the São Paulo Biennial, capable of inviting and offering a real structure for more than a hundred artists, while a Biennial like Venice offers no support (remuneration, production agency) to the invited artists. "Brazil, which for me is part of Africa, is showing here, even with only a third of the original exhibition, something that no biennial in Germany is capable of doing," he adds.
