The traveling exhibition of the 36th São Paulo BiennialThe exhibition, which can be seen until December at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin, seems to go beyond the title of the original show. If “Not every traveler walks roads” was the motto chosen to name the São Paulo exhibition, seeking to cause a certain strangeness and open up possibilities for new paths, the Berlin version adopts the continuity of the poem. The following verse, written by Conceição Evaristo in “Of Calm and Silence,” has a more powerful relationship with the selection and montage proposed by Alya Sebti: “There are submerged worlds, which only the silence of poetry penetrates.” “I took the continuity of the poem,” she says to explain the presence of subtle works that refer to things we don't see. This sensation is reinforced by the smaller scale of the exhibition space, which allows for a more intimate connection with the works.
