On the next 4/4, Thursday, 18:30, MAM and the ARTBrazilians promote the debate “Sertão: experimentation and resistance”, linked to the 36th Panorama of Brazilian Art, with the participation of curator Júlia Rebouças and Durval Muniz de Albuquerque Jr., professor at UFRN and UFPE, author of the book “The invention of the Northeast and other Art". The event takes place in the Lina Bo Bardi auditorium and admission is free.

About the participants:

Julia Reboucas. Born in Aracaju, Sergipe, 1984

She is a curator, researcher and art critic. Doctor by the Graduate Program in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2017).
She is currently curator of the 36th Panorama of Brazilian Art MAM-SP, entitled Sertão, opening in August 2019. She was co-curator of the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo, Incerteza Viva (2016) and the 9th Bienal do Mercosul, in Porto Alegre , in 2013. Between 2007 and 2015, he worked as a curator at Instituto Inhotim, Minas Gerais. At Associação Cultural Videobrasil, she was part of the curatorship of the 18th and 19th International Contemporary Art Festivals SESC_Videobrasil, in São Paulo. She is preparing Cildo Meireles' solo show at Sesc Pompeia, São Paulo, to take place in 2019.

 

Professor Dr. Durval Muniz De Albuquerque Júnior. Born in Campina Grande, Paraíba, 1961.

Master and PhD in Social History from Unicamp. Full Professor at UFRN – Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Professor of the postgraduate programs in History at UFRN and UFPE – Federal University of Pernambuco. Author of the books A Invenção do Nordeste and Other Arts (Cortez, 1999);  History, the art of inventing the past (Edusc. 2007), Prejudice against geographical and place origin: the borders of discord (Cortez, 2007) among others. In addition, he is the author of chapters in several books and articles in the areas of Theory of History, Cultural History of Spaces and Gender Studies.
