Seeking to stimulate reflections on the contemporary agenda and broaden the understanding and appreciation of art, Casa de Cultura do Parque offers a wide free program during the month of December. The activities, aimed at audiences of different ages, work at the intersection of the arts with education in order to foster a plural and inclusive cultural production.

On the 27th of November, the institution started the II Exhibition Cycle 2021, with the artistic direction of Claudio Cretti. Those who visit the space, in front of Villa-Lobos Park, in São Paulo, now have the opportunity to see the collective Of Earth and Gas, with works by Germana Monte-Mór, Paulo Monteiro and Solange Pessoa; a solo by Luís Teixeira; and the display of Cucumbers, Sad & Brazilian, a series of 27 paintings by Estela Sokol. In parallel, the Casa de Cultura offers in-person and virtual workshops.

The exhibitions

the collective Of Earth and Gas proposes a dialogue between the works of Germana Monte-Mór, Paulo Monteiro and Solange Pessoa – artists who established themselves in the national art scene between the early 1980s and 1990s, with an emphasis on three-dimensional and pictorial research. With similar trajectories, the trio presents artistic productions full of references to post-minimalism, Italian arte povera, Brazilian neoconcretism and national popular art. Almost always tending towards abstraction, in drawings and sculpture, the works offer a poetic dialogue, revealing a clash between matter and form. “There are holes, holes, cocoons, lines and shapeless masses, as if it were going to reveal something that is not there, exhale a gas, make a surprise”, comments Cretti.

In its turn, Neck evidences a kinetic will of static objects and images. Bringing together 10 works, the solo show by Luís Teixeira creates a notion of “bottleneck”, as the title suggests, to which static aspects of the work appear to move through a narrow space. “Luis Teixeira’s paintings allude to a dichotomy: his static condition in contrast to his kinetic desire, this bottleneck in itself is a path, it is movement”, points out the writer and curator Tiago de Abreu Pinto in the critical text.

O Project 280 x 1020 - wall located between the internal and external spaces of the Casa de Cultura do Parque – presents Cucumbers, Sad & Brazilian, exhibition of paintings by Estela Sokol. Made without the use of paint, the works made with colored felts on wooden chassis use the entire palette of felt colors available in the industry to create a polychromatic game between figure and background. The title of the series directly alludes to the Sad & Brazilian meme, which went viral on the Internet during 2020, and the choice of cucumber as the main character is by no means random, it refers to the popular meaning of the word: problem – relating the vegetable the country's economic, political and social situation.

Offices

During 2020 and 2021, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Casa de Cultura do Parque workshops were taught online, in the #NoQuintal program. At the end of the year, the educational team selected two of these activities to be taught in person.

The first, entitled mod.du.lar, is inspired by the works of Lenora de Barros exhibited in AR, sample of the previous exhibition cycle. The proposal is to investigate words as a module, decomposing them into prefixes, suffixes, radicals, reversing the order and even turning them inside out. The meeting will take place on Saturday, December 11, at 15 pm. On the 18th, participants are invited to develop and study about flags in the workshop giving flag. The activity was developed based on the exposure Beloved homeland?, by Edgar Racy, aired in 2020. Prior registration is required to participate (click here). However, for those who are not in São Paulo, or are unable to visit the Casa de Cultura on these dates, it is possible to enjoy these and other workshops in a virtual way, through the Youtube of the institution.

The activities are intergenerational and seek to invite the whole family to the experience. “In this way, each participant has the possibility of investigating the proposal according to their repertoire and resources”, explains the institution.
